Extruded FRP half rods in fiberglass, carbon fiber or hybrid are manufactured with filament winding with absolute quality control and uniform thickness where they are placed on pipe supports bonded with DUC-SEALER. These are perfectly dielectrically insulated and also prevent humidity at that point, resulting in a permanent protection against corrosion that is traditionally generated in the duct-mounted supports. PETROPIPE’s FRP half rods comply with Standard NRF004PEMEX2011.
Installation of half reeds
It has always been the great unknown to know the physical state of the point-contact Duct-Moke, pipe-Moke or pipe mounted on a saddle, since it is a very difficult point to inspect by traditional methods and it is there where the galvanic couple is generated or where moisture is trapped, accelerating corrosion with its respective loss of metal.
PETROPIPE has been manufacturing, selling and installing FRP half reeds (100% dielectric, they never lose their original shape) for more than 20 years, adhered to the pipe by means of a 100% solid epoxy (Duc-Sealer) that does not allow humidity to enter, thus helping to ensure that these points will not be inspected for 20 years.
The system consists of lifting the pipe if it is possible or demolishing the wall, perform the necessary inspection, determine that the pipe is still within its remaining life span, sandblast the white metal and place a FRP half pipe impregnated with epoxy resin directly to the pipe, adjusting it as close as possible to the pipe wall, expelling the trapped air and excess resin; seal the perimeter of the FRP half pipe, let the epoxy harden to be able to apply the color coating of the pipe. The tube is then lowered to its original position or onto the new concrete bedplate.
FRP pipe protection can be 180° or 360° when vibration clamps are required. FRP half rods are manufactured in all diameters (from 1″ diameter to 56″ diameter), various lengths, for both API and ASME pipe.
